How To Make An Easy Old Time
Thread Cone
You will need: Button or ¾” round disk Fish hook earring wire
Ear ring back Small piece of thin dowel
Stain or paint wooden disk if desired. Straighten out the hook part of the ear ring wire-it needs to be a straight as possible. Leave the bead and spring on the wire up near the ‘eye’ and bend down the wire straight as in photo #2. Glue end of hook wire piece into the ear ring back and then to disk with strong glue. Shave off one side of the wooden dowel so that it will resemble a cone. Place some white glue that will dry clear (I use Aleene’s Tacky Glue) on the ‘cone’ and begin to wrap your chosen colored thread up and down the dowel piece until all of the dowel is covered by the thread a few times other than the very top of the cone. End off at the center of the cone and place glue over the thread again if needed to help hold it in place. Cut off thread leaving a tail of three to four inches long. Glue thread cone to wooden disk and run thread through eye at top of wire and drape down to catch on bottom of silver ear ring backing. Trim off ‘tail’ of thread if needed.
